Buying Gold and Silver, What types of coins or bars are the best to buy?

I have been looking at buying some silver and gold bullion from www.apmex.com

If I am buying bars or coins for silver and gold, what is the best ones to get if you just want it for the investment of the metal and not the actual coin etc? I don't care to be a collector of coins, just to have the metal!

    For bars:

    Silver:

    Johnson Matthey
    Pan American

    Gold:

    Pamp
    Credit Suisse

    If you just want metal than bars are the way to go. Watch out for shipping prices, remember what you pay for the gold or silver includes the cost for shipping. Make sure you will make enough money when the metals go up to cover that cost.

    just make sure that the number series on the bars can be authenicated
